Washington - Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mark Walker (NC-6) today announced Rep. Sam Johnson (TX-3) as the recipient of the inaugural RSC Member of the Year Award, which will be named the Sam Johnson Award in his honor. The award is based on a vote by members of the RSC conducted on December 6th.

Rep. Johnson ensured the continuation of the important work of the RSC by refounding it as the Conservative Action Team during the ‘90's when Speaker Gingrich suppressed caucuses.

As a Member of Congress since 1991, Rep. Johnson has served his constituents with steadfast commitment and fought to save Social Security. He is the author of the Social Security Reform Act of 2016. He is a valued and active Member of the RSC Steering Committee.

"Having served America as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and now as a congressman, Sam is the embodiment of an American hero. All our members at the RSC have been honored to serve alongside him during all these years. He has unquestioned character and resolve, and he is fully dedicated to his country " said Chairman Walker.
