Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker sent a letter to Chairman Kevin Brady and Chairman Orrin Hatch urging the Conference Committee on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) to preserve the Senate's repeal of the individual mandate. Sixty-nine members of the House of Representatives joined Chairman Walker on the letter.

Last month, Chairman Walker filed an amendment to the House version of H.R. 1 adding a repeal of the individual mandate. It was ruled out of order at the Rules Committee despite garnering over 60 cosponsors.

"Obamacare's coercive individual mandate represents perhaps the worst example of the federal government violating individual freedom and liberty – which is why we have repeatedly promised to repeal it." The letter states. "We urge you to help fulfill our promise to the American people and include this language in a final conference package."
